UK Tax if You Live or Work Here
If you plan to live in the UK, your tax depends on whether you are a UK resident. Your residence status decides how your income and capital gains (from the UK and abroad) are taxed.
If you are not a UK resident, you pay tax only on UK income, such as:
-
UK job earnings
-
UK rental income
How Much Tax Will You Pay?
Everyone gets a Personal Allowance (tax-free income). The standard allowance is £12,570.
After that:
-
20% on income up to £50,270
-
40% on £50,271 to £125,140
-
45% on income over £125,140
If you’re self-employed or have other income, you must file a Self Assessment tax return.
If you’re unsure about your tax status, professional advice can help you understand your UK tax duties.
